Mealhada Dakar 2008
VICTOR MONIZ - is the mentor of this event. Got the habit on big travels in such conditions “only God knows how”, and so, appealing on ancient complicities, he was able to catch other three companions:
ALDA TEIXEIRA - born “tripeira” (nick name given to the ones who were born in Oporto city), living the last 25 years in Mealhada, got addicted on great itinerant epics in some countries counting on the math of the kilometers;.
PEDRO CAMPOS – man of multifaceted live divided on pro activity on car seller and hobbies on karting, motorcycling, jeep trial and football. Discovered that the world has more than four corners and hard challenges of “dripping adrenaline”;
LUIS GAMELAS – adventurer, musician, painter, drawer and, specially, companion of Victor in hurting voyages;
In way to do (the four ones) one such adventure: RUN THE DISTANCE BETWEEN MEALHADA CITY (Portugal) and LAKE ROSE (Dakar-Senegal)going to GUINEA-BISSAU and coming back, in a distance about 14 000km, driving carefully two real “eating kilometers” machines – one 1973 TOYOTA COROLLA 1200 car and a 1978 TOYOTA COROLLA 1200 station wagon just in “perfect conservation”.
To build this project, they count on several supports of firms and entities of Mealhada county, finding interesting the idea, did not denied support.
Interesting and important is also the partnership with a Non Governmental Organization of Social Solidarity.
They will eat kilos of sand, but they think that, in the end of ride, the presuppositions will be satisfied: the pleasure of a hard travel and the delivery to the N.G.O. of several offers that will be linked to poorer families of Mealhada county.
